The Microsoft Lync marketing team wanted to have a new product marketing site that could showcase the new Lync product at its virtual launch in 2010. Aptillon, partnered with CanViz Consulting (http://www.canviz.com/), worked with the product team to create an architecture that would support the required design. This architecture was based on SharePoint 2010 and needed to accommodate Variations and a variety of rich media formats all while making it easy for content authors to produce and edit content along with all the associated translations that were necessary. Additionally, Aptillon created numerous tools that allowed the team to release the new site in half the expected time. These tools, for example, allowed Aptillon to produce development artifacts directly from the corresponding architectural documentation; additionally, Aptillon was able to facilitate the creation and translation of content before a single SharePoint site had even been created. A detailed approach to the creation of component architectures and the development of custom tools employed in unique ways enabled Aptillon and CanViz to produce a rich and compelling site for the Lync marketing team.

The Microsoft Visio marketing team wished to launch a new product marketing site that could showcase Microsoft Visio 2010. Aptillon, partnered with CanViz Consulting (http://www.canviz.com/), worked with the product team to create an architecture based on SharePoint 2010 that would support the creation and editing of content in multiple languages and allowed for a dynamic navigation model that allowed content to be exposed to users where it was most relevant. To achieve this, the site was implemented using Variations and extensive use of the Managed Metadata Service and custom Content by Query Web Parts. Content authors could “tag” content and those tags would drive various navigational and content aggregation components throughout the site. Additionally, Aptillon perfected tools built for the Microsoft Lync product site to further speed up the development of the site and the creation and translation of content.

With the release and success of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Microsoft quickly realized the benefit of integrating Windows Phone 7 with SharePoint 2010. Achieving this integration requires deep knowledge of numerous technologies including the Windows Phone 7 implementation of Silverlight, Azure, and of course, SharePoint 2010 and Windows Phone 7 marketplace. To help developers gain the necessary understanding of these technologies and how they all integrate to create a Windows Phone 7 application, Microsoft contracted with Aptillon to build numerous developer orientated modules that walk the developer through the creation of Windows Phone 7 applications from soup to nuts. This includes everything from setting up the development environment to publishing an application to the marketplace.

As more and more businesses look to the cloud to store their data the prevalence of technologies such as Windows Azure and SQL Azure become more and more widespread. Some data, that might otherwise have been stored on-premise is now being pushed to the cloud, however, businesses still require seamless integration with their on-premise or Office 365 deployments. This means that developers must understand both the on-premise technologies but also the cloud based technologies such as Windows and SQL Azure and even Office 365. To help developers gain the necessary knowledge and experience Microsoft contracted with Aptillon to create the SharePoint 2010 and Windows Azure Training Course. This course helps developers learn many different ways to integrate SharePoint and Windows Azure through eight different modules which include PowerPoint decks, hands-on labs, and source code showing how the SharePoint 2010 platform and Windows Azure platform can work together. Many of the concepts shown can be leveraged with both on-premise SharePoint as well as Office 365 hosted SharePoint.
