Announcing SharePoint Communication Sites

Microsoft is now previewing for First Release tenants new SharePoint Communication Sites—beautiful, dynamic sites that allow for broader communication across an internal audience than a traditional SharePoint Team Site, and also look great on the web, in the SharePoint mobile app, on a PC, and on a Mac. These sites are easy to access, engage with, and create content for from any device.

SharePoint Communication Sites are simple to use, with three initial site designs and a drag-and-drop format to reorganize web parts on the page. When creating the page, you can choose from the Topic design, for use when there is a lot of information to share, such as news, events, and other content; the Showcase design, to feature products, your team, or events through the use of photos or images; and the Blank design, which is a blank site for your own personal design.

With the SharePoint Communication Sites, you can dynamically pull in content from across Office 365, and highlight that information through web parts such as “Hero,” for important content, “People,” for notable members of the team, and “Events,” for important upcoming events that can then be easily added to your calendar.
